NNEKA'S DIARY XII

"Kunle, being engrossed in your phone while talking to someone is disrespectful, you know?" I said.

He said, "And if the person is paying his bills? Must you pay bills now? Please, your bills can wait."

"One more thing you must know: I don't share—not even my man's attention or time," I heard myself saying.

He said, "Sorry, my lady. Check your phone—I've just paid my bill."

"I don't understand. What bill?" I said. I unlocked my phone and saw an alert of 500k. I was mad. "Kunle, what is the meaning of this? Why are you sending me money? Do you think I'm one of those ladies you entice with money? I honestly feel insulted right now. Please send your account details—I am returning your money right now, and I'm going home immediately."

"Neky, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to insult you. I thought we were just having fun and playing around. It hasn't gotten to this. Please calm down," he pleaded.

"It's okay. I'm sending you back your money. Please give me your details," I said.

He said, "Can you please have it as appreciation for honoring my invitation?"

I said, "Hell no."

He said, "Then have it." I opened my app. He called out his account number. I paid back his 500 thousand naira. I told him I needed to go since it was getting late.

"Can I at least get a hug?" he said. When he got up, I gave him a hug. He gave me a kiss on my forehead again.

He made a call. The same lady who served us came, and he told her to take me to the entrance. He said a driver was at the entrance to take me home.

On getting out of the reception with the lady, she opened a car at the entrance, and I entered and waved at her.

The driver said, "Good evening, ma." I responded. He asked, "Where are we going?" I gave him my address. It was about a 30-minute drive to our house. I called Grace: "Hope you're home? I'm on my way."

"Sure," she replied.

Nneka, what have you done? Hope you've not blown it, I thought.

I got home and told Grace what had transpired. She said I overreacted, that I should call him and apologize. But I vehemently refused and decided to leave things the way they are and watch them unfold.

Around 9 pm, Kunle called and asked if I arrived home safely. I said yes. He said, "Thanks for your time." I said, "You're welcome," and the phone went off. He didn't even say anything about what happened between us.

Should I call back and apologize? No, I wouldn't. Let things be the way they are. What will be, will be.

To be continued ….

David Onyedikachi: In this economy Nneka is sending back 500k ? She actually did oh 😮. I was thinking she was joking when she said she was gonna send it back. Anyway I know you will still call him back. No be Nneka again? 😂
POULTRY AND FISHERY: Nneka, you did the right thing. A lot of ladies would have kept quiet and taken the money, but you chose your peace and self-worth. That hug and forehead kiss after the refund was a bit much though 😅. Well written story!
AOJ: Ehen, I said it! I knew it was money my guy wanted to send. Nigerian man no dey disappoint:

"He said, "Sorry, my lady. Check your phone—I've just paid my bill."

Ha, Nneka explodes o! She rejects the money. Odindin 500k. She is not a Nigerian. She is not a Biafran from the Number One state. She is...
Mild Uchenna: Nneka may have overreacted, but her response showed she values respect, independence, and clear intentions over money. Sometimes misunderstandings reveal more about people's values than smooth conversations ever could. Now the real question is whether pride will prevent an honest conversation
Comfort Yako Asala: My Gender!!
Nneka, you too much (in Odogwu's voice)
All of a sudden, you became an Amazon.
"One more thing you must know: I don't share—not even my man's attention or time"
As in, the possessive nature revealed itself, refunding the money and refusing to apologize 🙌🏼
All I can say is that you...
