Open Letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Your Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,

I write this letter as a concerned Nigerian seeking answers to questions that have remained unresolved for far too long.

Mr. President, the tragic kidnapping of the Chibok schoolgirls on 14 April 2014 did not occur during your administration. However, as the current Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Nigerians look to you for leadership, accountability, and the pursuit of truth.

Reports over the years have suggested that security personnel were present in the area before the attack but were allegedly ordered to withdraw shortly before the terrorists arrived and abducted the students. Recently, Senator Adams Oshiomhole raised similar concerns on the floor of the Senate, asking who gave the order for the troops to vacate the area.

Mr. President, Nigerians deserve to know the truth. Who issued that order? Why was it given? Was there a failure of intelligence, command, or responsibility? The families of the Chibok girls, and indeed the entire nation, deserve clear answers.

Furthermore, the worsening security situation across the country continues to raise serious concerns. It is heartbreaking to witness reports of military officers, including senior-ranking personnel, being killed by bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists. Nigeria’s Armed Forces have earned international respect through their outstanding peacekeeping operations across Africa and beyond. Why then are our brave soldiers facing such devastating losses at home?

Many Nigerians believe there may be collaborators and moles within the security system who are aiding criminal elements. Others wonder whether the persistent insecurity in certain regions is connected to the vast mineral resources found in those areas. These are difficult questions, but they cannot be ignored.

Mr. President, I respectfully urge you to hold security chiefs accountable, conduct thorough investigations, and ensure that those responsible for security failures are identified and brought to justice. Transparency will strengthen public confidence and demonstrate that no one is above accountability.

Nigeria is our shared home. The citizens deserve answers, justice, and a security architecture capable of protecting lives and property.
