His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, the Executive Governor of Abia State, has reiterated his administrationโs commitment to supporting the creative economy as a strategic driver of tourism, job creation, cultural promotion and economic growth.
The Governor gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of Nollywood practitioners led by renowned filmmaker, Mr. Francis Ifeakandu, producer of the highly anticipated movie project, The Chronicles of Enyimba City. Governor Otti in his remarks, commended the team for embarking on a production that seeks to project the rich history, culture and transformation of Abia State, particularly Aba, the famous Enyimba City, to a global audience.
While assuring the delegation of governmentโs support, Governor Otti noted that although government may not directly fund private film productions, it remains committed to creating the right environment for the entertainment industry to thrive. Drawing from his personal experience as a movie producer in the 1990s, the Governor acknowledged the enormous potential of Nollywood and disclosed that plans are already in motion to establish a world-class Entertainment City in Aba. According to him, the project has progressed beyond the conceptual stage, with land acquisition and compensation processes already underway, as part of efforts to position Abia as a leading destination for film production, entertainment and creative investments in Africa.
Earlier, Mr. Francis Ifeakandu thanked Governor Otti for his continued encouragement and transformational leadership, noting that The Chronicles of Enyimba City is one of the largest film productions on the continent. He revealed that auditions were conducted across all 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State and beyond, with over 2,000 cast members participating in a six-season production designed to tell the Abia story, celebrate its heritage and showcase its development journey. He further praised the Governorโs infrastructural achievements, especially the remarkable transformation of roads and public facilities, which he said left visiting Nollywood stars amazed.
