When Sickness Came, I Made a Vow to God I Still Live With Today.
After I got married, something quietly changed in my walk with God.
I was still going to church, yes, but something was missing.
I was no longer serving like I used to.
Before marriage, I was actively in the choir. That was my place, my joy, my service.
But after marriage, I kept telling myself, “I will join back soon, just let me settle first.”
My pastor’s wife then, Mummy Esawe Adebajo Dolapo Mary would encourage me to join the choir unit.
And I would smile and reply, “Mummy, I will join soon.”
But that “soon” kept shifting.
Days became weeks. Weeks became months.
And I stayed in the comfort of just attending church without really serving.
Then life changed.
Sickness came, it was as if i won't survive it. In that painful season, I prayed like I had never prayed before.
And in that place of weakness, I made a vow to God that if He brings me out of this, I will serve Him more than ever before. I will not take His mercy for granted again.
And God came through for me.
He restored me. He healed me
To God alone be all the glory.
That vow I made in pain did not disappear with the pain.
It became a quiet voice in my heart.
Even on days I felt tired, even on days I felt discouraged, even when life felt overwhelming again.
That vow kept pulling me back.
Sometimes God doesn’t just answer our prayers to change our situation,
He answers them to awaken our commitment.
To God be all the glory.
Today, I am not perfect, but I am grateful. God didn’t just restore my health, He restored my heart.
God did not let me forget the promise I made in my weakest moment.
And maybe this is a reminder to someone reading this:
Don’t forget the vows you made in your valley.
Because sometimes, those vows are what keep your heart anchored long after the miracle has come.
