In several frog species, especially those that gather in large numbers during breeding season, males compete fiercely for access to females.

These contests can look surprisingly similar to wrestling matches. Rival males may grapple, push, kick, and even fling each other through the air or into the water while fighting over territory or a potential mate.

A stronger male that wins these physical confrontations gains a better chance of securing a mate and passing on his genes. In some cases, the battles are so intense that multiple males pile onto a single female, creating chaotic scenes in the water.

While the fights may look aggressive, they are usually about establishing dominance and reproductive success rather than causing serious injury.

For frogs, winning a wrestling match can mean the difference between fathering the next generation or leaving the breeding season empty-handed.
