Project Background
The initiative, launched in October 2024 and completed in May 2025, was implemented under the North-West Development Facility Project in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the German Government (GIZ), and the Norwegian Government Tribune Online. It was designed to provide safe shelter, restore dignity, and rebuild livelihoods for families displaced by years of armed conflict and insecurity

Housing and Livelihood Components
152 units (70 women, 82 men) from 11 wards of Jibia, selected through a transparent process involving traditional rulers, civil society, youth, and government officials Leadership News.

Each house includes two bedrooms, toilet, bathroom, spacious courtyard for gardening, livestock, and poultry Leadership News.

Amenities: water points, solar-powered street lighting, washing facilities, and communal spaces Leadership News.

Support items for beneficiaries: mattresses, mats, blankets, cooking utensils, soap, and rice bags; some households received financial assistance to restart lives

Agricultural support for both dry and rainy seasons, plus grants for micro, small, and nano enterprises

Cattle Market and Livelihood Infrastructure

Rehabilitation of the Jibia cattle market and cattle loading facilities

Broader Impact
The intervention complements other Jibia projects such as:

Security and Community Recovery
Governor Radda noted that the security situation in Jibia has improved significantly, with no deliberate attacks or kidnappings in the past year, farmers returning to fields, markets reopening, and children back in school Peoples Gazette+1. He emphasized that peace is built in every household, market, mosque, and classroom, and urged dialogue and reintegration with armed elements Tribune Online.

UNDP’s Role
UNDP Resident Representative Elsie Attafuah commended the state’s co-financing and local ownership, calling the projects a milestone for recovery, resilience, and long-term development, linking development and peace as inseparable goals
