Aryabhata was an Indian mathematician and astronomer who lived from 476 to 550 CE and is regarded as one of the greatest scientific minds of ancient India.

In his influential work Aryabhatiya, he made significant advances in arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, and astronomy.

Aryabhata developed accurate methods for calculating planetary motions, introduced sophisticated trigonometric concepts, and produced an approximation of π that was remarkably precise for his era.

He also proposed that the Earth rotates on its axis, a revolutionary idea at the time.

His contributions profoundly influenced mathematics and astronomy in India and later spread throughout the Islamic world and beyond.
