Fasting and prayer is one of the spiritual exercises approved by Jesus Christ. But that doesn't mean all fasting and prayer would be acceptable to God. The question you should ask yourself is about what you are praying and fasting about.
Fasting and prayer won't give you all solutions in the first place; don't be brainwashed.
For example, God's protection is more of obedience than prayer. You should pray for God's protection but you have to be obedient.
Victory over enemies is more of obedience than prayer. All promises in Psalm 91 depend on the verse 1 of the chapter. The verse 1 is the foundation of the whole promises not even of Psalm 91 alone but of the whole Bible. I have heard people claiming the interpretation of Psalms 91 is about incessant fasting and prayer. Knowledge of the word of God is more important than than prayer. Knowledge is power. Don't pray for power when you don't even understand the word of God. Ordinarily, if a man is obedient to God's word, he shouldn't be bothered about the issues of enemies and death. Meanwhile, don't be twisted, being obedient doesn't mean a man can't die at any time if God allows it. What I say is, you shouldn't be afraid of death if you are right with God. Death is a reality that no man can escape. Don't pray for it, but be prepared for it. (That is just a digression).
Please self denial/discipline should be for a moment. Fasting should be done intermittently while prayer should be incessantly. If you have laboured, with whatever God has blessed you, eat good food and enjoy your life. It may be occasional, and if it's constantly, God approves it; that is the reward of man. Ecclesiastes 5:18-19. Whether you pray and fast, there will always be challenges, children of God don't have problem. It is Nigeria that makes all challenges look spiritual. Being obedient is better than being prayerful. Know this and know peace.
