Respectfully why boko haram started the core reasons
Nigerian government past/present opposition parties, independent candidates, courts, efcc, police, military, Airforce neglect & poverty northern Nigeria faced decades of economic marginalization high unemployment, poor infrastructure, and limited government presence. Many young Nigerian were frustrated by corruption and lack of opportunity. This made Yusuf’s message appealing.

Corruption & distrust of Nigerian government past/present, courts, judiciary, police, military, Airforce. The group blamed Nigeria’s corruption and inequality on western influence and secular politics. Many locals agreed that the political elite had failed them. Mr. President drain the swamp of corruption starting from you sir and then tackle the root causes of boko haram with all due respect sir stop with the lies/slogans/ speeches

Police brutality & the 2009 crackdown the turning point came in 2009 when clashes with security forces killed hundreds of members. Yusuf was captured and executed extrajudicially by police. This event radicalized the movement and pushed it into full insurgency under Abubakar Shekau.

Why boko haram emerged started because economic hardship, corruption, religious radicalism, and a violent government crackdown combined to transform a fringe religious movement into a deadly insurgency. The group exploited real grievances but turned them into a campaign of terror that has devastated millions of Nigerian lives until now 6/11/2026
