The Menace of Kenneth Okonkwo
Kenneth Okonkwo's constant presence on television and in political discussions raises important questions. Is he functioning as a political commentator, a journalist, or a spokesperson for a particular interest group? Whatever the answer, his near-daily appearances on television create the impression of someone whose primary occupation is political commentary rather than constructive engagement in nation-building.
In every democracy, citizens have the right to criticize government policies and hold leaders accountable. However, there is a difference between offering thoughtful analysis and becoming a permanent fixture on television panels with little else to contribute. The role of public commentators should be to enlighten the public, provide balanced perspectives, and encourage meaningful debate—not simply to dominate the airwaves.
Nigeria faces enormous challenges: insecurity, unemployment, poverty, inflation, and a struggling economy. The country needs voices that can contribute practical solutions and inspire constructive action. Endless political arguments may attract media attention, but they do little to solve the problems facing ordinary Nigerians.
Public figures should be judged not only by their criticism of others but also by the quality of the alternatives they offer. Criticism without solutions risks becoming noise rather than a contribution to national development.
Ultimately, Nigerians deserve a political conversation that is focused less on personalities and more on policies, less on television appearances and more on tangible ideas that can move the nation forward.
