Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has seen his net worth climb by an estimated $6.5 billion in 2026, reaching $36.5 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The surge, which represents a 22% increase this year, is largely driven by the growing value of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery—Africa’s largest refinery—and the continued strength of Dangote Cement. Bloomberg now ranks the Nigerian billionaire as the 61st richest person globally, with the refinery alone accounting for a significant portion of his wealth. Analysts say the refinery’s operations have transformed the valuation of Dangote’s industrial empire, spanning cement, fertiliser, sugar, salt and food processing. Meanwhile, the Aliko Dangote Foundation is distributing thousands of bags of rice to vulnerable households in Ogun State as part of its food intervention programme aimed at easing economic hardship.
