Nigeria's Growing Insecurity: Who Will Protect the Citizens?

The continuous wave of insurgency, banditry, kidnappings, and violent attacks across Nigeria has become a national tragedy. Every day, innocent citizens are killed while many communities live in constant fear. Yet, many Nigerians feel that those entrusted with the responsibility of protecting lives and property are not doing enough.

The recent attack in Kogi State, where a vice principal, a six-year-old child, and another resident were reportedly killed by armed bandits during an attack on a school, is another painful reminder of the security crisis facing the nation. Reports indicate that the attackers targeted a school environment and disrupted examinations, leaving families and communities devastated. �

The question many Nigerians are asking is simple: Where is the safety of the ordinary citizen? How many more lives must be lost before stronger action is taken? A government's primary responsibility is the protection of its people. Citizens deserve to live, work, and send their children to school without fear of violence.

This is not the time for silence or complacency. It is a time for decisive action, improved intelligence gathering, stronger security operations, and accountability. The lives of Nigerians must be treated as a priority. A nation cannot prosper when its people live in fear.
