NNEKA’S DIARY VIII

On Thursday, I left work early and went to see Mrs. Chucks.

After exchanging pleasantries, I told her there was someone in my life — a widower with a daughter. I didn't tell her everything, only enough for her to pray with me.

Mrs. Chucks listened carefully and offered wise counsel.

I've always admired her. When I first joined the church years ago, I wasn't sure what to make of her. But over time, I discovered a woman of wisdom, compassion, and strength.
After our session and prayers, I returned home.

That night, I had a dream. Kunle was holding my hand and pulling me away from danger.
The following morning, Mrs. Chucks called to tell me I had forgotten my scarf in her office. During the conversation, I told her about the dream. She advised me not to rush into interpreting it.
"It could simply be a reflection of everything we've discussed and what was on your mind before you slept," she said.

A week later, my phone beeped. The message was from an unknown number: "So sorry for not keeping in touch all these days. Hope you arrived home safely. It was really nice having you around during the burial. Your presence meant a lot. I may not have shown it, but it gave me courage. I don't know why, but I really appreciate you. Kunle.”
I replied immediately:

"You're welcome. Is this your number?" I replied.

A few minutes later, he confirmed it was.

That was when I realized I had saved one of the digits incorrectly. No wonder all my attempts to call him had failed.

I read his message again and again. Looking for hidden meanings between the lines.

Then I prayed: "God, You know I deserve happiness. If there is no beautiful future in this, please take these feelings away from me. Let me stop loving him."

The funny thing is, I had always told myself I would never marry a Yoruba man.

In fact, I hardly allowed them close enough for anything serious.

Yet here I was, wondering where love was carrying me.

That reminds me of the saying: the only way to never see the very thing you swore you'd never experience is to die immediately after saying it."

Life has a way of surprising us.
