Respectfully the claim is true — multiple Nigerian states are actively deploying forest guards as insecurity rises. This is backed by several recent government announcements and news reports.
Is the claim true? Yes, recent reports confirm that Kebbi, Gombe, Kwara, Kaduna, Edo, Imo, Bayelsa, Anambra, and others have begun deploying or training forest guards under a Federal Government–backed initiative.
Additionally, President Tinubu approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State after a major kidnapping incident.
The Federal Government also graduated over 7,000 forest guards from seven frontline states under the Presidential Forest Guards Initiative.
So the statement that “states across Nigeria are deploying forest guards” is accurate.
Can deploying forest guards solve the insecurity problem?
Short answer: Forest guards can help but cannot solve the problem alone.
What forest guards can do
Surveillance of forests — many kidnappers and bandits operate from forested areas.
Intelligence gathering — they can provide early warnings to security agencies.
Support military & police operations — especially in remote terrains.
Deny criminals safe havens — by patrolling ungoverned spaces.
What forest guards cannot do alone
They are not heavily armed like the military.
