Diophantus was a Greek mathematician who lived around the third century CE in Alexandria and is often called the "Father of Algebra."

His most famous work, Arithmetica, presented a collection of mathematical problems and solutions that focused on finding unknown quantities through symbolic methods.

Although his notation was not fully algebraic by modern standards, it marked a significant step toward the development of algebra as a distinct field of mathematics.

Diophantus explored equations involving whole numbers and rational numbers, inspiring centuries of mathematical research, including the work of Pierre de Fermat.

His contributions laid important foundations for number theory and algebra.
