THE STORY OF TONYE AND What the River Took From Him.
They extracted the oil from under his feet and built cities he will never live in.
Tonye's father fished. His grandfather fished. Then the river changed colour.
His father joined a peaceful protest. He came home eleven days later with broken ribs and a silence where his willingness to speak used to be.
Tonye trained as a welder. He came back to his village with skills nobody there needed.
Resentment without a pathway does not disappear.
It becomes something else.
What he could not fix was the water.
What he could not fix was the pipeline.
What he could not fix was the settled feeling that they had been born into a crime scene.
The Niger Delta is burning....
and what can actually be done to quench this fire?
