The Federal Government has warned that road contractors who fail to mobilise to project sites without advance payments risk being blacklisted as it intensifies efforts to fast-track critical infrastructure delivery nationwide. During an inspection of ongoing projects, Minister of Works David Umahi said both indigenous and foreign firms with poor performance records would face sanctions, stressing that contractors must demonstrate commitment by investing in projects while awaiting government payments. He also cautioned ministry officials against lax enforcement of construction standards and reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to end the era of abandoned and substandard road projects. Inspections covered key routes including the Mararaba–Keffi Road and the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Highway, with lawmakers describing the projects as vital to economic growth, trade, connectivity, and national integration.
