As Nigeria marks decades of uninterrupted democracy, Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged Nigerian to hold on to hope and remember the nation’s blessings. Hope is important — but Nigerians have every right to ask a deeper question: What has hope alone delivered since 1999 we are now in 2026 nothing Nigerians still in poverty & darkness

For 240 million Nigerians, the message of hope and prayer no longer matches the reality on the ground. Nigeria is one of the most religious nations on earth, with more churches and mosques than almost any other country. Yet the country continues to struggle with corruption, insecurity, mass unemployment, and infrastructure decay.

Hope has not stopped kidnappings since 1999
Millions of Nigerians families are still waiting for their children to return. Communities continue to face banditry, terrorism, and violence. Prayer alone cannot replace intelligence gathering, policing reform, and decisive security action.
Hope has not created jobs for millions of young Nigerians and graduates. Nigeria’s youth population is one of the largest in the world, yet job creation has not kept pace. Hope cannot substitute for investment in agriculture, technology, manufacturing, and education.

Hope has not built free hospitals, schools, free stable electricity.
For decades, Nigerians have been promised free light, free Wi-Fi, modern healthcare, and affordable housing. These promises remain unfulfilled. Hope does not build power plants, roads, or classrooms — budgets, planning, and accountability do.

Hope has not ended corruption.
Since 1999, corruption has drained resources that should have transformed the nation. Prayer cannot prosecute cases, strengthen institutions, or enforce transparency.

Hope has not stopped the killings of Nigerians since 1999 despite being one of the most prayerful nations on earth, Nigeria continues to lose lives to preventable violence. Faith can comfort, but it cannot replace effective governance.

A Democracy Worth Celebrating Must Deliver Results
Nigerians are not rejecting hope — they are rejecting empty hope for decades. A democracy that survives for decades is worth acknowledging, but democracy must also deliver safety, jobs, justice, and dignity. This will be lies slogans and decades of failed promises

240 million Nigerians demands since 1999 respectfully if leaders are not ready to govern with seriousness, accountability, and urgency, then they should step aside for those who will.

This is not disrespecting sirs/madams. It is the essence of democracy.
