Your Excellency Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, we hope this message finds you well. 240 million Nigerians are writing to urgently bring to your attention several alarming reports circulating regarding the safety and screening of blood supplies in government facilities in the 36 states 774 LGA
We are receiving claims that some blood units are not being properly screened and may contain infections, including syphilis. Given the critical importance of blood safety to the health of over 240 million Nigerians, this situation poses a severe public health risk.
We respectfully request clarification on the following:
Why are such reports emerging, and what investigations are currently underway to verify or refute them?
What immediate steps are being taken to ensure that all blood donated across the 36 states and 774 LGAs is thoroughly screened before being used in hospitals?
Additionally, it is important that no hospital or healthcare worker be punished for raising legitimate concerns intended to protect 240 million Nigerians. Transparency is essential for maintaining trust in the healthcare system.
Beyond this issue, there are broader systemic concerns that require urgent attention:
Hospitals across all 36 states and 774 LGAs should be adequately supported with essential services such as free electricity, internet access, and data connectivity.
Access to free healthcare should be affordable and not hindered by unnecessary administrative barriers. Doctors, nurses, staffs must be paid 900 thousand naira monthly to ensure to take care of 240 million Nigerians in the 36 states 774 LGA do the needful sirs/madams this is a humble request
These matters are of national importance and require swift, decisive action. Nigerians deserve a healthcare system that is safe, transparent, and fully accountable in the 36 states 774 LGA
