AN OPEN LETTER TO THE NIGERIAN PEOPLE

Dear Fellow Nigerians,

I write today out of deep concern for the future of our democracy and the credibility of our electoral system. A nation can only survive and progress when its institutions remain independent, transparent, and trusted by the people.

The office of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is one of the most sensitive and important positions in our democracy. The holder of that office is expected to remain neutral, unbiased, and completely non-partisan at all times. Nigerians expect the INEC Chairman to act as a fair umpire for all political parties and all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.

It is therefore troubling and disappointing to witness social media activities and public conduct that appear to show support for the present administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Such actions raise serious questions about the neutrality and independence expected from the head of INEC.

Democracy cannot thrive where the referee is seen as favoring one side. The integrity of future elections depends not only on fairness, but also on the public perception of fairness. Once public trust is damaged, the foundation of democracy itself becomes weakened.

For the good of our nation, to protect the integrity of INEC, and to restore public confidence in the electoral process, I respectfully call on the present INEC Chairman to resign from office immediately. This is not about hatred, politics, or personal attacks. It is about safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy and ensuring that future generations inherit a country where elections are free, fair, and credible.

Nigeria belongs to all of us. Our democracy must be stronger than political interests, stronger than individuals, and stronger than temporary power.

May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
