The skin of my nation
Devastated by Jobian sores
Is festering without control.
The putrid smell has turned noses
Into leprous sorry state.

Flies feast on the carcass of our dreams,
While the political physicians trade remedies for gold.
Still
Beneath the rot, a quiet heartbeat stirs,
Waiting for the rain that washes wounds clean.

Vultures that wait with royal patience
Will be disappointed by our patient grimness.
Soon, the ticking will stop,
And we will clock down every clock
Hanging on our resilience.
