TEACHING SERIES: UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF VISION – PT. 1A
TEXT: PROV. 29:18
MINISTERING: PST. ISAAC UMEGA
INTRODUCTION
- God has a plan and purpose for every believer – Jer. 1:5.
- We’re not products of biological accidents, we each have an assignment to fulfill – Eph. 1:3-5, 11-12.
- Many people miss divine direction because they base their decisions on logic, and they inform God rather than seek His opinion on a matter – Rev. 1:9-10.
WAYS GOD UNVEILS HIS PLANS FOR US
1. Through His Word (Revelation) – Psa. 119:105.
2. Through visions - Hab. 2:1-3, Exo. 3:7-10, Acts 10:1-4.
- God cannot reveal anything outside His Word – Psa. 119:89. True vision never contradicts the Scriptures.
- Vision is when we have an encounter with God through His Word, as in the case of Moses and Paul.
WHY VISION? – Prov. 14:12
1. Without it, we’ll be tempted to go with the trend and the result of that is destruction – Isa. 59:8.
2. Vision puts us on the right path – Ezra 8:21-23, Prov. 3:5-6.
3. God knows the end from the beginning – Isa. 46:10, James 4:14.
4. Without vision, we live on guesswork – Jer. 29:11.
5. Vision removes anxiety – James 4:13-16.
HOW TO ACCESS DIVINE VISIONS
1. Desire access to visions – Prov. 18:1-4.
- Our level of desire often determines our level of revelation – Psa. 63:1-3.
2. We must engage the altar of prayer to secure access – Hab. 2:1-3.
- Vision is caught, not chased, and prayer is the altar to get it – Mark 11:24.
3. We should create quiet time and avoid the noise of the world so we can hear Him speak.
CHARACTERISTICS OF TRUE VISION
1. It drives the visionary – Gen. 12:1-4, Jer. 20:9.
- True vision creates holy restlessness – Hab. 2:1-3.
2. It allays all fears – Exo. 3:7-10, 4:22-23.
- Vision replaces fear with faith - Prov. 29:25.
3. It builds confidence that engenders exploits – Phil. 1:21, 3:3, Acts 26:19.
ENCOUNTER WITH DESTINY
- Destiny is a process where God shows you where you’re going, and then brings you back to the beginning to start the process. It is not tied to a present situation or condition, it is futuristic.
- Whatever a person’s destiny is, has always been inbuilt. We need to discover destiny through the Word to bring it forth and fulfill it – Eph. 1:11-12.
THE PLANS OF GOD FOR HIS CHILDREN
1. Every child of God has a glorious destiny – Rom. 8:29-30.
2. We have enviable destinies – Gen. 26:12-14, Gal. 4:25.
3. We have prosperous destinies – 2 Cor. 8:9.
4. We have royal destinies – Rev. 5:9-10, Acts 20:22, 2 Pet. 1:3.
5. We’re destined for continuous progress in the kingdom only achievable by revelation – 2 Cor. 3:18
