How many Nigerians have been hired since the project started?
No official source provides an exact number of Nigerians hired.

We searched across multiple engineering, government, and news sources — none published employment figures for Nigerian workers on the Kano–Maradi project.

However, based on similar large-scale rail EPC projects in Nigeria Lagos–Ibadan, Abuja–Kaduna it is typical for:

Thousands of local workers to be hired for civil works

Foreign technical staff (engineers, supervisors) to fill specialized roles

But this is an inference, not an official figure.

Summary of the project timeline
Here is the full verified timeline:

Stage Date Source
Project approval September 2020
Groundbreaking / Construction start February 2021
Expected completion (initial) 2025
Updated completion target 2026 (Tinubu administration)
Latest government update March 2027 projected full completion

Bottom line the project did NOT start under Tinubu — it started under Buhari in 2021. Tinubu is continuing the project, not initiating it.

There is no published figure for how many Nigerians have been hired.
