The idea of “looking away from the centre” sounds simple, but governance is rarely that clean.
Centralisation offers control and speed, but often at the cost of overload and distance from real local needs.
Decentralisation promises efficiency and local ownership, but only works where subnational capacity, accountability, and resources are strong enough to carry it.
That’s why “true federalism” is easy to endorse in theory, but harder to sustain in practice, it shifts not just power, but responsibility and expectations.
In the end, the real question isn’t where power sits, but whether it delivers results where people actually feel them. 🇳🇬
