Popular Nigerian indigenous rapper CDQ has claimed that upcoming musicians must belong to a particular gang or cult group to successfully advance their careers in the Nigerian music industry.

“You have to belong to a particular gang or cult before anybody could help you in the music industry. So, if you don’t belong to this particular gang, or this particular group, or this particular cult or whatever, you might probably spend a lot and not see anything in return.”

He also stated that the few artists who managed to achieve mainstream success in the industry without joining any cult groups or associations were simply lucky.
