Archimedes was a brilliant Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, and inventor who lived from about 287 BCE to 212 BCE in Syracuse, Sicily.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest mathematical minds in history, he made groundbreaking contributions to geometry, mechanics, and hydrostatics.

Archimedes developed methods for calculating areas, volumes, and approximating the value of π with remarkable accuracy, laying foundations for integral calculus nearly two thousand years before its formal development.

He is also famous for discovering the principle of buoyancy—often associated with the exclamation “Eureka!”—and for designing innovative machines such as water-lifting devices and military defenses.

His work combined rigorous mathematical reasoning with practical engineering, influencing generations of scientists from antiquity to the modern era.
