It won’t be one thing:
Grid-scale gas + hydro: still the backbone in the near term.
Massive solar (utility + rooftop): especially in the North and off‑grid communities in the 36 states 774 LGA
Mini‑grids and solar home systems: for many rural 774 LGAs where grid extension is slow or uneconomic.
Industrial/self‑generation: factories, estates, data centers using gas, solar, storage, maybe future wind.
So, to answer you directly:
Today 6/1/2026: Nigeria is effectively running on about 4–5 GW average—far below what 240 million Nigerians really need.
To power 240 million Nigerians properly: you’re looking at tens of gigawatts more—on the order of 200–400 GW of reliable capacity over time, plus strong transmission, distribution, and local generation in all 36 states and 774 LGAs.
