Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has disclosed that 140 police officers lost their lives in the Federal Capital Territory within a year due to violent attacks, accidents, and other duty-related incidents, highlighting the dangers faced by security personnel. Speaking in Abuja during an engagement with crime correspondents, Disu said modern policing demands officers work beyond traditional shifts to tackle evolving security challenges. He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and a zero-tolerance stance on impunity, while stressing the need to protect officers from harassment and misinformation. The IGP also called for stronger collaboration with the media to promote accurate security reporting and warned against the misuse of police-related video content that could undermine morale and operations.
