I’m Glad Governors Are Pushing For ₦100,000 Minimum Wage - Ologun
I am of the view that ₦100,000 is still not reflective of the spirit of the Constitution. Section 16(2)(d) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, provides for a “reasonable national minimum living wage,” not just a minimum wage. Given the current rate of inflation and the rising cost of living, ₦70,000 can hardly be described as a living wage. Even during festive periods like Sallah, many families still struggle to afford basic celebrations. The government must be more sensitive to these economic realities and ensure that wages truly reflect the actual cost of living in the country.
