In a quiet village surrounded by green fields, there lived a farmer named Jacob. Jacob was known as the strongest man in the village. He owned the largest farm, worked from sunrise to sunset, and often boasted that his success came only from his own hard work and strength.
Whenever the villagers gathered to pray for rain and a good harvest, Jacob would laugh.
“I don’t need God,” he would say proudly. “My hands are strong enough to provide for me. While others pray, I work.”
Year after year, his farm produced plenty of crops, and his pride grew even bigger. He stopped helping others and mocked those who trusted God during difficult times.
One season, Jacob planted more crops than ever before. He believed it would make him the richest farmer in the region. But shortly after planting, the skies became dry. Week after week, no rain came. The hot sun cracked the soil, and the crops began to wither.
Jacob worked harder than ever. He carried buckets of water from the river, day and night, using all his strength to save the farm. But the river slowly dried up too.
Then came a terrible storm. Fierce winds destroyed the little crops that remained. His barn roof collapsed, and most of his animals ran away in fear.
For the first time in his life, Jacob fell to his knees. Exhausted and broken, he realized that no matter how strong he was, he could not control the rain, the wind, or life itself.
With tears in his eyes, he whispered, “God, I was wrong. I trusted only myself and forgot that every blessing comes from You. Please forgive me.”
An old farmer from the village helped Jacob rebuild his farm. This time, Jacob became humble. Every morning before working, he prayed and thanked God. He also began helping poor farmers and encouraging others not to let pride rule their hearts.
Years later, Jacob would tell young farmers:
“Strength and hard work are important, but without God, a man can lose everything. Never let success make you forget the One who gives life, rain, and strength.”
