Your Excellence President Tinubu, Opposition parties, independent candidates 240 million Nigerians are writing to respectfully appeal for compassion, fairness, and a sense of proportionality in the case of the 19-year-old blogger, Nurenorue Surpruchi, who was recently arraigned over alleged cyberstalking and defamatory posts.

Sir, this young man is still a teenager. At 19, he should be in school, building a future, not sitting in a correctional facility. While the law must be respected, it is equally important that justice reflects humanity, context, and the long-term wellbeing of our youth.

Nigeria has faced serious security challenges for decades. boko haram has taken thousands of lives since 1999, yet many Nigerians struggle to understand why young Nigerians expressing themselves online are arrested swiftly, while the terrorists who have devastated Nigeria always go unprosecuted. This contrast has created a perception—both locally and internationally—that our institutions act faster on speech than on violence.

Sir, Nigerians want a country where the police, DSS, and courts are seen as protectors of Nigerians, not adversaries of free expression. No country is perfect, but we must strive to do better.

We respectfully urge your office to consider the following:

Allow the 19-year-old Nigerian to return home and go back to school not in jail

We demand an approach that prioritizes education over incarceration of young Nigerians and graduates and all of them arrested on lies/no proof of wrongdoing must be let go. We demand CCTV in all the 36 states 774 LGA and police, dss must wear body cameras 240 million Nigerians do not trust the Nigerian government, courts, dss, police hence we demand they wear body cameras and demand CCTV cameras in the 36 states 774LGA

Promote policies that protect free speech while addressing misinformation in ways that do not criminalize Nigerian youths and graduates

Strengthen efforts to bring terrorists, kidnappers, and violent offenders to justice with the same urgency applied to online cases with all due respect sirs/madams

Nigeria’s youth are the nation’s future. They must be in classrooms, not jail cells. They must be guided, not silenced. They must be protected, not discouraged.

The world is watching Nigeria—195 countries observe how we treat our young Nigerians how we uphold justice, and how we balance security with freedom for decades Nigeria can do better

Respectfully we appeal to your leadership and sense of responsibility to ensure that this young man is given a chance to learn from his mistake without having his entire future destroyed.
