NNEKA'S DIARY IV
Thursday was a day to the D-day. I got to work and told Priscilla I had decided to go with them for the burial. She was so excited she hugged me, and that got me even more confused.
Let me tell you a little about Priscilla so you understand why.
She’s one of those women who sees marriage as an achievement and hardly associates with unmarried ladies. One day at work, Kelly, our accountant, came to my office. We joked around and she threw my pen at me — the one my favorite uncle gave me. The pen flew past me and out the window, and she ran off refusing to pick it.
As I walked past Priscilla’s office later, I overheard her telling a married friend who came visiting:
“It’s your fault, you know. As for me, I don’t keep unmarried ladies as friends.”
That explains why she always acts high and mighty.
So when she invited everyone to her birthday party — including us unmarried people — I was surprised. After announcing it during a meeting, she still sent personal invitations to everyone. I told Kelly, my fellow single lady 😊, that I wasn’t going, but she said it wouldn’t be a good idea since almost everyone was attending.
Now you understand why I’m surprised at Priscilla’s sudden change of attitude towards me. Shouldn’t she be mourning Angela? Everything about this keeps making me more curious. I need answers from both Kunle and Priscilla, but first things first.
Priscilla suggested I come with my things the next day so we could leave directly from work.
On Friday, I came prepared with my little bag. Kelly was the only person I told about the trip. When I said I still didn’t understand what was going on, she simply sang, “la la la la,” and left my office.
By 4 PM, Mr Philip was already at the parking lot. Priscilla came to my office and grabbed my bag. As we approached the car, Mr Philip opened the door for us, kissed his wife, got in, and drove off.
“Nneka, how’s work?” he asked.
“Fine, thank you sir. Work is good.”
That was all he said before focusing on his wife throughout the journey.
We got to their house first — a well-furnished three-bedroom flat. Priscilla showed me the guest room so I could freshen up. After changing into jeans and a T-shirt, we left around 6:30 PM.
Almost two hours later, thanks to Lagos traffic, we arrived at Kunle’s residence somewhere inside Abule Egba.
The compound was huge and brightly lit — the kind of place where you could spot a pin on the floor.
Kunle stepped out from one of the bungalows, shook hands with Mr Philip, then smiled at Priscilla and me.
“Please come with me,” he said.
We followed him through another entrance that led to something that looked like a ranch. After ushering us in, he left.
Mr Philip found us seats and went off to greet other guests.
I finally looked around properly.
And suddenly, I became even more confused.
What exactly had I walked into?

Everything around Kunle, Priscilla, and this burial arrangement feels strangely intentional, almost like Nneka is being pulled into a story she doesn't fully understand yet. And honestly, that final line gave me chills.
I will definitely get to the bottom of this.
I wonder what you have walked into
It is obvious that Nneka is a sensitive person. She suspects a smile, a look and heck even an invitation to a party based on what she overheard 🤔.
I hope her emotions will not becloud her judgement
