On this day 3 years ago, President Bola Tinubu stood before Nigerians and declared, “Fuel subsidy is gone.” From that very moment, the economic reality of millions of Nigerians changed overnight. Transportation costs skyrocketed. Food prices doubled and kept rising. Rent, school fees, electricity, healthcare and basic survival became a daily struggle for ordinary citizens. Businesses shut down, families adjusted painfully and the middle class continued to disappear slowly. While government officials spoke about reforms, sacrifices and long-term gains, the average Nigerian was left battling inflation, hardship and uncertainty. For many people, life became less about living and more about surviving. Three years later, Nigerians are still asking the same questions:

Has the pain matched the promise?
Have the sacrifices produced relief?
And why does it seem like the burden is carried mostly by the poor?
