Better Pension Yes. Poor Policing No.

The Nigerian police deserve better pay, stronger welfare, and pensions that truly reflect the risks and sacrifices attached to the uniform. A nation cannot expect committed and effective policing while many officers are struggling with poor salaries, difficult working conditions, and uncertainty about retirement. Those who stand on the front line of national security deserve dignity, fair reward, and proper support. That is only right.
At the same time, Nigerians deserve honesty, professionalism, and protection without fear. Poor welfare should never become an excuse for extortion, intimidation, harassment, delayed response to emergencies, or treating citizens unfairly. The hardship officers face is real, but the hardship ordinary Nigerians face is real too. Trust between the police and the public cannot be demanded; it must be earned through discipline, accountability, and respectful service.
When government improves police welfare, the standard of service should rise with it. Better salaries should strengthen integrity. Better pensions should build confidence and commitment. Better support should translate into better conduct on the streets and better protection for the people. Nigeria needs a police force that is well cared for and well disciplined because the badge carries honour, and citizens deserve safety, respect, and justice every day.
