A registered physiotherapist, an occupational therapist, a speech therapist, and a radiographer all commented SWITCH on my post this week.
None of them are care workers. All of them are already registered professionals in the UK on various visa routes — and all of them were surprised to learn how close they actually are.
This is what I want to end today with — because it matters.
The gap between where most registered AHPs in the UK currently and outside the UK are and where they want to be is smaller than they think.
The problem is almost never the clinical credential. The HCPC registration is real. The clinical experience is genuine. The professional identity is established.
The gap is almost always in three places:
First — positioning. The application documents are describing clinical experience rather than demonstrating UK clinical governance competency.
Second — targeting. Applications are going to the wrong organisations — ones with closed CoS allocation or no active sponsorship pipeline in the relevant specialty.
Third — timing. Applications are being submitted before the full professional profile is ready — before the CV and supporting statement are aligned to the specific person specification, before the HCPC scrutiny report is positioned as a specialist credential, before the in-country availability is framed as a commercial advantage.
Close these three gaps and the switch becomes not just possible but genuinely fast.
