In the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria, one of the candidates campaigned with the slogan “Renewed Hope.” He was eventually declared the winner after the INEC Chairman, acting as the Chief Returning Officer, announced the result in the early hours of the morning.

During the same election period, governorship elections were also held across the 36 states of the federation. However, one state stood out — Abia State. The Returning Officer, Mrs. Nnenna Oti, chose to uphold the will of the people by declaring the rightful winner based on the actual votes cast.

This presents a clear contrast between two individuals: one who believed that the right thing must be done regardless of pressure, and another whose actions many Nigerians believe contributed to worsening insecurity, rising poverty, corruption, unpopular policies, high cost of living, kidnapping, and even the recurring collapse of the national electricity grid.

Sometimes, the destiny of a nation can be affected when one person fails to do what is right.
Today, Abia State is witnessing visible transformation because the people’s votes counted. The governor is working without the burden of political godfathers demanding loyalty or control. It shows that good governance is possible when leadership truly reflects the people’s choice.

As Nigeria moves toward another general election, we must reflect deeply on the kind of country we want. If we truly desire change, accountability, and a better future, then we must support leaders who represent competence, integrity, and the interests of ordinary Nigerians.

Many believe that Peter Obi and the NDC movement represent that hope — a vision where a son or daughter of nobody can become somebody through hard work, fairness, and opportunity.
Good governance is not rocket science. Nigeria can be fixed, and with the right leadership, it will be fixed.
