The HCPC Scrutiny phase costs £539. Most AHPs treat it like a tax. The ones who get shortlisted treat it like an investment — and they build their application around it accordingly.
The HCPC Scrutiny assessment is the stage at which your international qualification and clinical experience are evaluated against the UK Standards of Proficiency for your profession.
It is not a rubber stamp. It is a detailed professional assessment that takes 12 weeks and costs a fee that is non-refundable if your application is weak.
What the HCPC assessor is looking for in the Scrutiny phase:
— A detailed mapping of your training programme against the 15 Standards of Proficiency.
— A breakdown of your clinical hours by setting and specialty.
— Evidence that your scope of practice includes the key competencies the HCPC expects at registration level
— Language that reflects UK clinical practice — evidence-based practice, professional accountability, legal and ethical boundaries, service user involvement.
The applications that clear Scrutiny cleanly are the ones that provide this evidence proactively — before the assessor has to go looking for it.
Every standard addressed. Every clinical hour accounted for. The answer to "does this person meet UK Standards" visible within the first few pages.
The applications that get deferred — or rejected — are the ones that upload transcripts and assume the assessor will draw the right conclusions. They will not.
The burden of evidence is yours.
£539 is not the expensive part of a failed application. The 12 weeks you lose waiting for a deferral decision is.
