Physiotherapists are consistently one of the most in-demand allied health professionals in the UK. The NHS knows it. Private providers know it.
What most internationally registered physios do not know is who is actually hiring — and sponsoring — right now.
High-skilled healthcare roles including physiotherapists remain fully eligible for the Health and Care Worker Visa in both NHS and CQC-registered private settings, provided the employer holds a valid sponsor license and the role meets the relevant SOC code and salary requirements.
Private providers actively sponsoring physiotherapists in 2026 include large rehabilitation networks, sports medicine clinics, musculoskeletal services, and premium wellness providers — all of which hold sponsor licenses and operate under CQC registration.
The sponsorship conversation with a private provider is also different from the NHS.
Private hiring managers make decisions faster, with fewer committee approval stages, and are often more willing to discuss salary and start date flexibility than NHS HR departments operating within Agenda for Change constraints.
The HCPC Scrutiny Report — which documents your clinical competency against UK Standards of Proficiency — is the credential that unlocks both doors. It does not belong to one sector. Use it across both.
Where most internationally registered physios lose time is in positioning. Their clinical documents are written in home-country clinical language.
Their personal statements are chronological narratives. Their application packages do not speak the language of UK musculoskeletal or neurorehabilitation practice.
The HCPC gives you the right to work. The positioning determines whether anyone actually calls you.
