How long will Nigerians continue to suffer before our leaders realize that governance is not just a power game, but a sacred duty to protect lives? For weeks, several students and their teachers have been held hostage by terrorists, while those in power seem more focused on political maneuvering, propaganda, and strategizing for the 2027 elections. Our nation is in distress, families are shattered, parents are losing sleep, and innocent children are living in fear — yet many of our leaders act as if human lives are worth less than their political ambitions.

This is not leadership; it is a complete moral failure. A government that cannot ensure the safety of schoolchildren has fundamentally failed its purpose. What kind of conscience allows citizens to live in constant fear while public officials squabble over positions, alliances, and power-sharing? What kind of nation prioritizes greed, selfishness, and corruption over the lives of innocent people?

Nigeria is bleeding from the wounds of neglected responsibility. The silence, indifference, and insensitivity from those in power are truly heartbreaking. Our leaders flaunt their luxuries while ordinary citizens are left to bury their loved ones, pay ransoms, and live in fear. Their fixation on holding onto power has revealed a disturbing lack of empathy within the political class.

History will not remember the speeches, the motorcades, or the political slogans. It will remember that during a time when citizens desperately needed protection, far too many leaders turned a blind eye.

Enough is enough. Enough of the carelessness. Enough of the greed. Enough of the dead conscience. The lives of Nigerians are far more important than elections. The safety of our children is far more crucial than political ambition. Humanity must rise above these selfish power games.

Nigeria deserves leaders who embody compassion, courage, and conscience — not those who are intoxicated by power while the nation burns.
