Myth: “Only lawyers can draft contracts.”

Reality: Businesses can draft contracts too, but legal review helps reduce risk.

A lot of people believe only lawyers can draft contracts. That’s not exactly true.

Businesses draft agreements every day — from partnership deals to supply agreements and simple service contracts. Even messages, emails, or handwritten agreements can sometimes become legally binding if the basic elements of a contract are present.

The real issue is not whether a contract was drafted by a lawyer. The issue is whether the contract actually protects you when something goes wrong.

Many business disputes start because:

* terms were vague,
* responsibilities were not clearly stated,
* payment terms were incomplete, or
* nobody thought about what would happen if the deal failed.

That is where legal review becomes important.

A lawyer may not necessarily create the contract from scratch, but reviewing it can help spot loopholes, reduce risks, and make the agreement easier to enforce if there is a dispute later.

So yes, businesses can draft contracts themselves. But having a lawyer review the document can save a lot of money, stress, and avoidable problems in the future.

A contract should do more than just record an agreement. It should protect your interests too.
