It is truly painful and heartbreaking that while many countries around the world were joyfully celebrating Children’s Day yesterday, many children in our own country, Nigeria, are still facing fear, insecurity, hunger, kidnapping, and even going missing.

This should concern every one of us.

Children are meant to be protected, educated, loved, and given hope for a brighter future — not exposed to danger, fear, and uncertainty. Sadly, many Nigerian children today are growing up in difficult conditions that no child deserves.

Sometimes we ask ourselves:
How did we get to this point?
Was it leadership failure?
Was it corruption?
Was it negligence?
Was it the silence of the people?
Or have we all, in one way or another, failed to protect the future of our nation?

These are difficult questions, but they are important questions.

Rather than blaming one another endlessly, this moment should remind us that Nigeria urgently needs:

* Better leadership
* Better security
* Better education
* Better care for children
* More accountability
* More unity and patriotism

A nation that cannot protect its children is risking its future.

Our children deserve better.
Nigeria deserves better.

May God protect every child in Nigeria and help our leaders and citizens to build a safer, better, and more hopeful nation for generations to come.
