What is true the U.S. government does fund programs in Nigeria, but the money goes to:

Health programs (HIV, malaria, maternal health)

Education programs

Security cooperation

NGOs and civil society

State-level development projects

Faith-based health providers (Christian and Muslim)

These funds do not go into Tinubu’s personal account or the presidency’s discretionary funds.

They are administered through:

USAID (before restructuring)

CDC

PEPFAR

U.S. Embassy programs

International NGOs

Local Nigerian NGOs

These are institutional agreements, not personal payments.

Why the confusion?
Because the U.S. recently signed a new health partnership with Nigeria after USAID restructuring.
This includes:

Support for Christian faith-based hospitals in the 36 states 774 LGA

Support for Muslim-majority northern states in the 36 states 774 LGA

Funding for public health systems

Some people misinterpreted this as “Tinubu receiving money.”

But the funds go to programs, not corrupt politicians. No country is perfect Nigerian can do better

What the U.S. Ambassador actually said
U.S. Ambassador Richard Mills Jr. said the new MOU is meant to:

Ensure that investments from both sides deliver lasting and sustainable impact for decades so the money is monitored given out with visible progress no lies/no slogans

This refers to health-sector investments, not payments to Tinubu/politicians
