The most dangerous prisons are the ones where the bars are painted to look like an open door.
When you are indulging in something destructive, it feels like ultimate autonomy, you're doing what you want, when you want, answering to no one. It masquerades as complete liberation.
The illusion only shatters when you try to walk away. The moment you decide, “Okay, I’ve had enough, I’m going to stop now,” and you feel the invisible cords pull tight, that is when the reality of the confinement sets in.
You realize you weren't the master of your choices; you were just a well-treated captive.
