Astronomers just detected the first orphan..!gamma ray burst with no visible host galaxy...
The burst lasted only 0.2 seconds but released more energy than the Sun will produce in its entire lifetime.
It appears to have come from a long dead massive star in intergalactic space, far from any galaxy...
