The pen is a bow,
Shooting fierce lines like piercing arrows,
Pricking the inmost heart.
Building conscience
Within the heart of the nation.
The pen, a mason’s trowel,
And the lines — sand and cement.
Poetry is a shining light,
Dispelling shadows from man’s heart,
But never an ode
Celebrating the corrupt.
Poetry praises and scolds.
It speaks of life and death;
It tells of love and prejudice.
It sings of the folly and wisdom of men,
Of purity and impurity,
Of praise and blame.
Oh potent poetry,
You reign supreme!
