Today is supposed to be Children’s Day in Nigeria.
A day meant to celebrate the smiles, dreams, and future of our children.

But sadly, while the nation celebrates, many families are in tears.

In Oyo State, dozens of schoolchildren and teachers were reportedly kidnapped during attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area earlier this month. Some reports said the victims included very young children.

So tell me, what exactly are we celebrating?

How can a nation celebrate Children’s Day when children cannot safely go to school?
How can parents sleep peacefully when kidnappers now target innocent pupils?

Today should not just be about parades, uniforms, dancing, and speeches.
Today should be about protecting every Nigerian child.
Today should be about securing schools.
Today should be about bringing every kidnapped child back home safely.

A country where children live in fear is a country bleeding from within.

This is not just a Children’s Day.
This is a painful reminder that Nigeria is failing the very generation meant to lead tomorrow.

Until every child can learn without fear, walk without fear, and dream without fear, our celebration remains incomplete.

Nigeria is bleeding.
And the cries of innocent children should concern every one of us.
