Greetings Yul Edochie, 240 million Nigerians are writing to express my concerns regarding your recent comments on The Honest Bunch podcast, where you stated that Peter Obi is unlikely to win the 2027 presidential election and suggested that his best chance would come in 2031. While you are entitled to your opinion, many Nigerians feel that no individual—public figure or otherwise—can predetermine the political choices of over 240 million Nigerians. Your statement has been perceived by some as dismissive of the democratic will of 240 million Nigerians
Additionally, the resurfaced 2012 video of Vice President Kashim Shettima, recorded during his tenure as Governor of Borno State, has reignited public frustration about longstanding insecurity in Nigeria. Many Nigerians continue to question the commitment of political leaders to addressing the killings and violence that have plagued the country for decades. These concerns are not new, and they remain deeply felt.
Recent public discourse has also highlighted comments from Pastor Adefarasin describing Nigeria as "dead," President Tinubu mentioning weight loss due to national challenges, and reports of terrorists operating with government-owned vehicles. These issues contribute to a sense of national distress, especially as Nigerian continue to struggle with insecurity, economic hardship, and questions about electoral transparency.
The Nigerian people deserve leadership that listens, understands, and responds to their lived realities. Public figures, including actors and politicians, play a significant role in shaping national conversations. It is important that such contributions help move the country toward unity, accountability, and meaningful progress.
Respectfully we hope you will reflect on the impact of your words and consider how your platform can be used to support the aspirations and frustrations of everyday Nigerians.
