Your Excellencies President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of Works David Umahi, 240 million Nigerians are writing to express deep concern about recent statements suggesting that Nigerians must vote in a particular way in the 2027 elections. With utmost respect sirs, no leader can compel 240 million Nigerians to vote for any candidate. Public office is a responsibility to serve all 240 million Nigerians, regardless of political preference.
Nigerians expect leadership grounded in accountability, transparency, and respect for democratic choice. As public servants, you are entrusted with the duty to work for every 240 million Nigerians, not only those who support a particular political party.
Furthermore, if institutions such as the courts and the EFCC do not thoroughly investigate corruption allegations involving public funds, the international community—including the United States, the United Kingdom, and other nations—will inevitably take notice. No country can thrive when corruption is left unchecked, and no individual who has stolen public money should be allowed to run for office.
Nigeria has immense potential. Nigerians are talented, resilient, and capable of building a nation that commands global respect. We can do better, and we must do better.
Respectfully we urge your offices to uphold the highest standards of governance, strengthen anti-corruption efforts, and respect the democratic rights of all 240 million Nigerians.
