The NMC does not care that you are working in a care home right now.
It cares about your qualification, your clinical hours, and your good standing certificate.

Your current job title is irrelevant to your registration.

This is the thing that holds so many internationally trained nurses back — the belief that their current care home role is somehow connected to their NMC eligibility.
It is not.

Your NMC application is assessed against your original nursing qualification.

Where you are working right now does not appear on the NMC application form as a qualification. It is your background, not your identity.

What the NMC does require:
— Your nursing qualification verified through Ecctis to confirm UK equivalency
— A certificate of good standing from your home country nursing regulator
— English language proficiency
— IELTS Academic 7.0 with no band below 6.5, or OET Grade B in all four components
— Completion of the Computer Based Test — which tests NMC Code knowledge, not clinical skill
— Completion of the OSCE — which you can sit in the UK, which means no international travel required.
Your care home experience is not wasted during this process.

Every month you spend in the UK
— building your NHS environment familiarity, securing your DBS, developing your UK clinical communication skills
— is a month of preparation that your overseas competitors cannot replicate.
Use this time deliberately.
