Today's Epistle!
A soul forged in fire cannot stay silent...

On that blood-soaked afternoon of June 21, 1582, after fighting like a true African lion through the flames of Honnō-ji, after cutting down enemy after enemy in defense of his lord in the flames of Honnō-ji and racing through the streets of Kyoto with death at his heels to stand beside Nobutada at Nijō Castle, after watching everything he had built in this foreign land that accepted him burn to ashes…

After his duties were done and his blade dulled with battle. Yasuke, the towering African who had become warrior, and still with hope that he can still look after Oda Nobunaga’s estate surrendered, but was delivered like damaged goods back into the hands of the Jesuits at Nanbanji.
The same Church that had once purchased him as a slave now received him as a broken relic.
Yasuke was dragged back into a broken and dejected life, by the same Jesuits who had once bought him as a slave.
He arrived at Nanbanji clutching only his wakizashi, repeating through clenched teeth: “Nobunaga-sama… Nobunaga-sama…” His eyes stared east toward the ruins of the only place that had ever truly seen him.
The Church that had baptized him “Francisco” now received him not as a hero, but as a problem to be managed.
For a few months the ledgers still listed provisions: extra rice, fish, five monme of silver “for the black man.” Then came the final line: “For the black man’s journey…” The rest disappeared beneath a water stain, as if heaven itself conspired to erase him.
They tried to bury him. Not in soil, but in silence. The same institution that profited from his chains quietly folded the African hero back into obscurity, a liability, a reminder of their entanglement with a fallen warlord. No grave. No record. No honor. Just disappearance.
They betrayed him twice: first when they bought him, second when they erased him.
Yet Yasuke’s light would not die. The warrior who rose from chains to stand at Nobunaga’s side refused to vanish completely. In his final days, abandoned by the Church that claimed to save souls, he carried the memory of the only man who had ever truly recognized him, a pagan ruler who saw his worth when his own people, his captors, and his supposed saviors did not.
Africa, hear this:
They tried to bury Yasuke twice, but a soul forged in such fire cannot stay silent. If he could rise from betrayal to nobility and fight with unbreakable loyalty until the end, then something has gone terribly wrong with what we have become.
It is time we remember.
It is time we rise.

Thank you ODA NOBUNAGA! We promise never to forget you and your deeds!
